Dowsing and Practical People

No apologies for repeating the theme of dowsing in this post. Absolutely not!

Because, dear reader, I have come across a wonderful snippet which shows just how practical people can be at times. Positively wonderful!

The article which caught my eye was in the Ledbury Reporter, a sturdy publication from the leftish-middle part of the UK. Near the Welsh border, if memory serves and a thoroughly nice place, populated, obviously, by very nice and clever people.

The reason for this unstinting praise is as follows.

There was  concern that there were leaks somewhere in a canal. So, in the tradition of sturdy pragmatism followed by the natives of this region

To find the leaks, eight members of the canal restoration group were handed wire dowsing rods.

To test their natural or supernatural skills, they were first asked to walk over a known underground overflow pipe.

The rods twitched for three out of the eight volunteers, and it was these three talented dowsers who were sent out to look for the leaks.

Mr Fox said: “All got readings in a couple of places, which will now be investigated.”

The restoration group decided to use dowsing rods because British Waterways occasionally uses the same mysterious technique on occasions.

Now, isn’t that just simple and obvious? Find people who seem to be responsive to water and then send them out to find the leaks.  (By the way, Mr Fox is the spokesman for the Canal Trust.)

The thing I really like about this is that is so open-hearted! The reasoning obviously was as follows; ‘This dowsing thing appears to work for a large authority, so we should try it as well. The best way would be to see if anyone does get a response and, if so, let them at it and we’ll follow up and find out if there’s anything in what they found.’

Three, no four cheers for the people involved in the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal Trust! Instead of blathering on about if dowsing works, just get out there and try it and see what happens.

If only more people were as open-minded!

By the way, if the results of this experiment are  recorded, I’ll be sure to let you know, successful or not!
