What stops you??

I know this is a subject I’ve touched on before in various ways, but it’s always nice to see someone else dealing with it sensibly as well.

I’m talking about what stops us from using or acknowledging our intuition (in whatever form that takes).

This article has a nice series of reasons why and it’s worth taking just a moment to look again at them…

1. Someone around you told you it was wrong to ‘know’ things.

Hands up if that has happened to you! Yep, looks like a lot of folks out there have had this one in their faces at one time or another. Even if you weren’t told it was wrong, you felt bad about it because of their reaction, didn’t you?

2. Society told you it was wrong to ‘know’ things.

Again, we’ve probably all had this one at one stage in our lives. Films, books, teachers, priests, doctors and so on and on and on. They’ve all fed into our feelings of insecurity and weakness when we finally admitted that ‘we had this feeling’ or we ‘just knew what was going to happen’, or ‘didn’t need telling what to do in a strange situation’.

3. You feel responsible for what you ‘know’.

This one might not be so on the surface as the others, but it sure plays a mighty role! If you’ve ever ’seen’ or ‘known’ something was going to happen, I bet you felt guilt about it that you didn’t stop it, or you felt responsible for the problem, no matter what or where it was, didn’t you? Yes? I’m right, aren’t I?

And that’s a load of baloney. We all know that in one part of ourselves, but that doesn’t stop the reaction from occurring, does it?

4. It hurts to know what you ‘know’.

This one’s interesting. At some level, you know stuff, but it’s stuff you don’t really want to know about so you hide it or hide from it (the same thing). The, when it happens, you feel even more pain then normal. Cheating partners, impending death (see number 3 above as well), and the pain of it all is worse because you realize you were hiding from it. So why would you want to know anything at all?

5. You’re wrong sometimes!

This is always good one! It kicks in whenever  you’ve plucked up the courage to talk to someone about what you ‘know’ and BINGO! it doesn’t happen! And you feel like a fool and what little confidence you had has evaporated and you wish the ground would open up and swallow you whole.

But, despite all those things happening to you, all those negative feelings, you still get the ‘knowingness’, you still get the feelings about things. One day, you’ll be ready to admit and accept it and know that it is erratic, that it can show you painful things and that you can learn to live with it. Either that or you’ll shut that part of yourself away from yourself and live a lesser life.

Tough choice, huh?

  1. well everytime i allow my intuition to do its thing i become overwhelmed by ghosts, so im afraid because of that and want to learn to perhaps switch that part off?

  2. I’ve not come across this before. At least, not when using your intuition.

How do you know about the ghosts? What happens to you? Is it only when you uae your intuition about one particular thing or use it in a particular way?

To be able to make more useful comments, we’d need to know more.

But, whatever the reason, it cna be dealt with. That I do know. Because we deal with such things in our business.

    So don’t worry!

  3. well generally i only hear them like one in particular i heard a couple of times around 15 years ago that i heard again this year when trying to allow intuition, i believe they are stuck in a loop (so i believe).

they walk past my window outside (grass crunching) goes to the front door next to my room drops something heavy (sounds like a box) at the step, i hear keys jingle and the door handle turning then the heavy footsteps up the hall, stops at my door and starts again.

things like that happen when i try to open myself up to intuition. eg. listen to first thoughts that come to mind, test ‘guesses’ and general opening up to everything going on around me (may be the problem : p )

I would love to be able to generally use my intuition and choose whether im up to being aware of ghosts/spirits being around. suggestions would be much appreciated :)

  4. Sounds like you are particularly sensitive.

My suggestion wuold be to set your intention very clearly not to allow these ghosts (or whatever they are) to interfere with your intuition.

Then, probably, I’d suggest that you try just simple stuff to start with. Things like getting a feel for what clothes would be best for the day ahead, or which restaurant would be most enjoyable, which checkout line is the quickest for you and so on.

(Sign up for the newsletter at the top of this page and you’ll get loads of ideas about the simple ways you can use your intuition safely.)

I think you just need to take it in small steps first and then get a feel about what your intuition ‘feels’ like before you really let it rip!

Plus, of course, you need to get rid of the ghosts!!

  5. I don’t like the profounded feelings and reactions I get when I listen and open my mind to intitution. The are astounding.

  6. I’m not sure I understand your problem here. Are you saying you do like the feelings or you don’t like them? It’s not clear from what you’ve written.

  7. I am saying that at times when I open my mind and listen to my intuition it at times can be scary that I don’ t like the feelings. They are at times profound and deep.

  8. I think we’re talking of sdifferent things here. Intuition, to me, means that you suddenly know something somehow that you couldn’t have got through the normal channels. That shouldn’t be scary. You can have premonitions which you feel (usually) in your gut and you might get that feeling on the back of your neck when you’re going somewhere scary, but the feelings themselves shouldn’t be scary.
Are you talking of something like meditation and you suddenly get an insight or something?
Other than that, I can’t think of anything else which would bring up such feelings.
If you want, feel free to explain more fully, or, if you want, let me know and we can take this discussion offline and email privately.

  9. Yes ,meditation and I suddenly get insight or image of something. For example I was laying in my bed getting relax for sleep one night . When suddenly’ Ive got this image of a man I never seen in my life. He was boarding a plane going somewhere. Where I didn’t know at the time. A week later I saw that exact man that I saw in image a week before at a shopping center. When I saw this the hairs in the back of my neck went up and chills ran down my spine.

  10. So, it’s simple precognition we’re talking about? Seeing the future in some fashion?
Unless the visions are pretty gruesome and contain details about crimes, death and accidents, I wouldn’t worry overmuch about it.
Sure, it’s a shock to realize that you DID actually see the person correctly, but it’s also OK to have seen them. You didn’t interfere with them or their life, didn’t threaten or harm them, so you have nothing to feel bad about.
From what you say, I would suggest that you practice some meditative techniques which get you to focus your mind, get control over it more so that you can choose whether or not to have these visions.
The fact that it happened at night just before sleep when you are very relaxed is important as well. This hypnogogic state allows for a freeing of the intuition or sensing faculty more. Instead of letting it all happen to you, try focusing on what you want to see, say, next Thursday’s newspaper headlines, or the restaurant you’ll be eating at next month.

  11. Hi again,

Thanks for the advice on focusing meditation before, i will get to it when i can give it the time (and find silence in a busy house). but the last comments reminded me of several occasions of the same thing while trying to sleep over several years and .. sorry to bother you but i was wondering if could tell me if it was perhaps my imagination or a strange “precognition” as you call it.

ive had at least four sudden images, the 1st i just saw flames, then another time i saw crows flying together, and the 3rd and 4th were really scary. i saw a man had crashed his car and been frown through the windscreen on a gravel road i saw the last of his life disappear from his eyes. and most recent an old woman on a phone in her house, someone came from behind and attacked her.

all only lasting up to 2 seconds if even … if this doesn’t make sense to you then please don’t worry and if you think i have psychological problems lol … feel free to say so as these images have stayed clear in my mind and bothering me. i will do the meditation and focused meditations but just wondering if these are the same things as you just mentioned.

much thanks for your time and comments

  12. No, it makes perfect sense. Just because not many people talk about it doesn’t mean you’re mad!!
The problem is not knowing if you’re seeing the future or the past, or just something which will never happen or which was influenced by a book or movie or even a conversation.
The first thing to realize is that you’re not responsible for what happens. You’re just seeing it.
A man called JW Dunne was interested in the same things as you (I can’t offhand remember the book he wrote), but he was convinced that dreams allowed him to travel in time. So he made a careful note of such dreams and then scanned the news for anything which might proive what he ’saw’. He found several instances of predictions coming true, not always exactly as he saw them, but close enough.
Maybe, you’re just sensitive to such influences and maybe you are seeing a real event somewhere.
But, unless you’re going to make a living from it, I suggest you accept that talent, accept also that you’re NOT responsible and accept also that you CAN train your mind to allow in what you want it to.
You already have proof that your mind is able to do certain things. All that’s needed now is practice!

  13. hi,i found this site wen i typed in hot itchy ears…

i have felt these some times..once on a clear day wen my husband commented about the beautiful sunlight and perfect weather forecast,i insisted on taking an umbrella..in case it rained..well it it did with thunder(and weather forecast in western countries is accurate mostly) well and some other unexplainable things not right 100% but 30% thanks guys

  14. Hey! 30% is better than 0% isn’t it?
Good for you for sticking to your guns and following your intuition!

  15. thanks nigel

i am giving some exams right now,i gave the same last time but didnt qualify..now at that time i had sme feeling about clearing..but i dint..its a costly fees again..and i dont know what will happen..sometimes i visualise my dreams coming true..but then these set backs put a whole question mark on the autencity of my intutions’ correctness…also i sometimes feel, that many a times.. i feel intervention of some higher power ,putting my things gone wrong -right..i hope u understand what i mean..or may be i didnt explain myselves as i wanted to..but i have felt it before..and get terrified at the thoughtr that what if that higher presence has left me alone since some time..i have so many questions..so many i dont know how to come accross with all those. really want to have a heart to heart discussion ..wen i am relatively free in sept….just hope to get some answers…thank u so much for bearing with me thanks

  16. I think the thing to concentrate right now on for you is to pass your exams. (I wish you success in them!)

I think that most of us have the same questions you speak of. We all have them from time to time. It’s trying to keep confident when you’re not really sure of your intuition.

In a way, it’s easier if you try to stop worrying about your intuition and how right or wrong it is and let it just happen to you. Sounds so easy and yet is so hard to do well.

Anyway, good luck with the exams and maybe we’ll talk again later.

  17. thanks
    sure we will talk again
