The limits of intuition

I think I wrote in an earlier post that the limits of intuition are pretty hard to define. It is not enough to say that it is simply an immediate apprehension of knowledge through no discernible logical steps (or variations thereon). I think that is too limiting in itself. Knowing who is on the phone before you answer it is one type of intuition. Knowing the place or direction to go is another.

But then you also have such things as knowing that someone close to you has died (but not getting confirmation of it until much later), or the whole area of dowsing, for example. Then there’s the examples of premonition or foreboding, as well as the area of divination and prophecy.

The point I’m laboring here is that there doesn’t seem to be a clear-cut edge to intuition, at least not in my book. The difficulties of definitions are the curse here.

If pushed into a corner and threatened with a pointed stick, I’d be forced to say that intuition should include any unexplained aspect of gathering knowledge in any form, no matter how that knowledge is later transmitted. So, for example, tarot card readers use intuition to know what to say, but not how to say it. Doctors who just ‘know’ what the problem is with a patient use their intuition, but not to disseminate it.

In fact, if it was a really, really sharp stick, I’d go even further. I think and believe that intuition is a constant force in our lives. I believe that intuition does not occur solely in the mind. I believe that intuition is an active part of the experience of living in that it creates for us our experiences such that they allow us to understand more about ourselves and help to lead us to create the life we want.

That this is so is, I believe, due to the fact that life is not random. It is not a wild series of unrelated acts and events leaving us to be the spectators. We create our lives. I don’t meant this in some wishy-washy new age fashion. I really believe that we do create the experiences we have. And that those experiences are vital to our achieving the goals we want. We don’t necessarily consciously want some of the things we have in our lives, but we want them in some form, or we wouldn’t be having them. And our intuition serves us up with events and acts and opportunities which allow us to be exactly what we chase and choose.

And that is the biggest role for intuition. And that is why I do not think that intuition can be limited or defined in a simplistic way, because it is at the heart of our very existence. Without it, out lives would be unimaginably weirder than they are.

It is the very size and scope of intuition which makes it so hard to see.

  1. I believe intuition, prophecy, and alot of E S P. all run together. with me it does.. iam a firm beliver, that it all runs together…example…..we were living in a cabin, here in the blue ridge mts. had just moved from big city life to retirement…..on this rental property we had out houses and a barn..my daughter bought me 2 compaion goats for my 60 birthday…it was very quietand my dream came true of livig in a cabin. I oil paint so i painted mts. and a cabin always……….my brother, my only sibling was in AZ. where my parents retired, he had always just said sis i just want you to fine happyness and peace in your life,,,my life had many turns and alot of unhappyness…..finally i found my peace of mind and total happyness.
i got a feeling i could not dissmiss.and also a vision of my brother, that he would soon pass on. finally i got to the point of accepting it, and started
taking picturs, of the cabin and mts, and goats. i wrote every week to him.
he never answered, but that was okey as i knew his wife.. one christmas
my dad called and said hey your brothers here talk to him…i was thrilled
he said i have all the pictures and letters, thanks so much, iam so glad at last you have your prayers answered. and i know you have found your happyness….i said yes i have. and thats all i needed to know. i contued to write and send pictures….3 years later he passed in his sleep, due to a blood clot that went to his heart….he was only 58. of course it was A SHOCK no matter how we try to perare our self. but the comfort i got was i followed through on my intuition, and prophecy both together.. he knew at last i had found peace and happyness….he was only 2 and 1/2 years younger….we had a wonder life growing up together…i now encourage every one to always keep love one close to their heart, even
when they live in the same town….time can be so short.

  2. Thank you for this. Again and again, the message which comes through loud and clear is how much better / easier / safer / more fulfilling / etc (you fill in the blank) life is when we follow our intuition.

  3. I am thankfull everyday that I finally have the chance to experience and delve into the enhancing of intuition, ESP, and everything else assoaciated with it. There are times that I just know things, not very often but practicing so that It happens more. There are so many places to read things and test out theories, but this site has been most informative, and I am sure that this came into my life at the right time, I am inpatience to get really better at using the intution, but I also know that when the time is right it will happen.

  4. My thanks to you for posting this. I am sure it will strike a chord with many others. And thanks also for the kind words about the site. There is a lot of stuff I’m gathering here and I really believe that it will help you to get to the level you want.
I would suggest becoming a member as you’ll get a access to a lot more stuff as well as being able to ask questions on the forum there.

    Anyway, thanks for the post

  5. I believe our intuition is our connection to the universal energy that “is”…and we feel it in our tummy, as in belly laugh, fear, that sinking feeling, and yes, one of my favorites… anticipation… that feeling of butterflies need I go on?

  6. I agree with you that our stomach is certainly an important area for us to ‘listen’ to our intuition with. I’d be interested in knowing if only certain types of intuition can be felt this way, or whether it works for all types.
For me, it tends to be a bit more widespread than just my stomach…
And, finally, Yes, I’m quite sure that we are linked into the universal energy (however you want to label it) and that intuition is merely one type of connection.

  7. About a year ago I began feeling I was in for a big change in my life. I had no idea. Now, after going thru cancer surgery, radiation and chemo, and uprooting my life to move to San Diego to live with my son, I am a little overwhelmed. But I feel strongly that there is something important here for me. It took extreme circumstances to move me from Sedona, which I love, and have been a long time. Now I can’t guess what new adventures await, but it should be amazing.

  8. Wow! I guess you WOULD call all those things big changes, wouldn’t you?
And that can be a real kicker, can’t it? Knowing that SOMETHING’S coming along but having no handle as to what it is or what it might be.
But, again, good for you for following it, even if it took you away from Sedona (which is about 50 miles from where I live).
I hope you realize what it is that will be important for you there. After all, your intuition got your attention to go there, didn’t it? Just remember, it might NOT be as dramatic as the first thing (we hope!).

    Good luck with it all.
