Intuition Gains Footholds in the Business World

I was delighted to read this article recently. It is the announcement of a new business book. But it opens with a nice sentence or two…. I quote:

“In a world dominated by facts and figures, tapping into your intuition is rapidly gaining popularity with business people and being reflected in a number of surveys and studies.

In early November, the sixth annual 2006 PRWeek/Burson-Marsteller CEO Survey revealed that an amazing six out of every ten CEOS indicate they’re more likely to rely on intuition than financial issues, competitive analysis, or other metrics when making business decisions.

This is backed up by an international study of 13,000 executives by Jagdish Parikh of the Harvard Business School, which reveals that 80 percent of them credit their success to intuition.”

Whooeee!! Now doesn’t THAT make you go wobbly at the knees?

Actually, what I think is happening here is that the idea of intuition is slowly gaining enough public credibility that it is now acceptable to have ‘mainstream’ people (aka ‘those in the real world’) saying that they use this weird thing called intuition.

It’s not new at all. Many have said they they have used it as an integral part of their lives. (See Conrad Hilton, for example.)

But, as usual, the old idea is now being trumpeted as a new idea. We should all jump on this brand new shiny bandwagon and join the new successful people. Well, why ever not? If someone is going to get out there and say what wonderful things you can do with your intuition (at least, it hasn’t been given a new name yet!), then more power to them!

The more people talk about how intuition can help them, the happier I am. I don’t care if it becomes the new rage, as long as it attracts more people to use it!!

To paraphrase Leonard Cohen, “First we take big business, then we take the world!”

So, get out there and join the crowd and get intuiting!!!
