Sticky Doors and Shouting
The reason I’m writing this is because it shows the power of intent, if nothing else. It is not strictly to do with intuition, unless you allow that intuition can let us do something spontaneously to solve a problem.
The problem in this case was our garage door. It had the hiccups. More strictly, it would get stuck either raising or lowering and would either switch directions or just stop. It would usually do what it was designed to do after one or two presses of the button, but it was just an annoyance to have to wait to make sure the door was going to go all the way open or shut or whether you had to be quick with the button again.
Hardly one of life’s great tortures, I know, but immensely annoying nonetheless.
One day, while waiting by the opener, not wanting to get in the car while the door was opening, it got near to the point where it usually stuck. Suddenly, I shouted a string of totally unintelligible gibberish in a loud voice, at the same time as waving my fingers at it (I half expected violet light to sparkle from the tips!) and pretty much daring it to stop, and threatening it and any progeny it might have with unspeakable nasties. In other words, I was ticked off good and proper. But the point was, I was so intent on it NOT sticking and stopping and doing anything goofy that it noticed me! From that time onwards, the door has not played up once. It goes up and down when required and doesn’t stop to take in the scenery.
Now, the skeptics amongst you will say, “Pish and tush! This is just coincidence. It’s all very explainable. You just need to examine the door closely to find the cause. A piece of debris maybe which finally fell loose.”
However, I am not one to believe in coincidences. Maybe some debris DID fall out. But what made it do that? And if it wasn’t debris, then what was the cause?
If there are no coincidences, then the only thing which makes sense to me is that I did really want that door to work properly. I wanted it so much and my frustration came out through my voice and fingers, that it affected it somehow and the end result was exactly as I wanted it, as I saw it.
You can argue against that all you want, but it doesn’t matter. The door works and I made it that way.

I think you rewired it, so to speak, Nigel. I know you must have seen The Secret. Through your fingers you shot in a bunch of chi, and your gibberish probably translates to “Work correctly now! I’m done with the foolishness!” in garagedoor-speak.
Well, I have seen ‘The Secret’ but I don’t recollect the repair of garage doors in it :). But I guess that’s what it’s about.
