Testing Intuition
So, maybe you’re a skeptic about intuition, or you are just plain undecided and unsure about it.
In such cases, the best thing would be proof that intuition works. You’d like some evidence, some testing results to show you, unequivocally, that this thing actually works.
Wouldn’t that be just the greatest thing?
Of course, that’s the snag, isn’t it?
If I show you test results, it just comes out as statistics. Which is fine, if you happen to be able to read statistics. Then again, there are always those who challenge statistical tests on a whole range of arguments. Those who are intuitive also challenge them saying that such tests are false and unreal and do not really replicate the real way such things work. So, if neither side can agree about such things, maybe test results are not the best way to go.
So, what other proof can I give? Let’s say I have an intuition that I shouldn’t take a particular road one day, but another one instead. The only way you’re going to know if that’s the right choice is by checking on both road conditions (assuming that’s the reason for the intuition, and not about meeting someone or not meeting someone).
That set of problems then makes that a pretty difficult method of proof as well.
What is the answer?
Actually, the answer does not lie outside of yourself in test results or feverish checking up on alternatives. It lies squarely within you.
Think about it! Intuition is not based on science and reasoning and logic. In most cases, it is a feeling, a hunch, an awareness or a knowing. It is something only YOU know because YOU have that particular sensation.
Therefore, the proof (if such a scientifically minded thing exists) is in two things: the way you feel about the intuitive hit you have and the results of it. You cannot compare different results from the same intuition, but you can see how you feel about the result of intuition.
In other words, the proof lies in trusting yourself that you are doing the “right thing” and then believing that it is right. Trust and belief are the only two things you need. Without both, your intuition is weakened. Trust yourself in whatever way you get the knowingness and believe that it is correct.
The ultimate proof is the life you are led to as a result of doing these things.
